We’re about 3 weeks into the novel writing process and I’m happy to say it’s going well. I’ve read roughly 10 books in that time, and gathered a wealth of knowledge on writing techniques as well as my world I want to create. That world, however, is what is currently giving me problems. The scale I’m imagining is…enormous. The idea would be to create worlds with the same depth as Tolkien’s Middle-Earth, but do that for 10-15 planets; you can now see my dilemma. I might pull back my scope, I might not (depending on ambition, of course). Either way, I’m still looking for suggestions on any material that may help the cause. I’m looking for stories to read (any stories) as well as articles on ways to improve skill. I’ll keep you updated.
I had a very large breakthrough with both story and plot on Thursday. Progress is coming along quite nicely, but I still have not/will not put any kind of time line or constraint on myself. I’ll keep you posted, just know that I have an outline of the first 1/5 on my novel which isn’t much, but it’s immensely more than I anticipated at this juncture.
So, I’ve decided I want to write a novel. Ambitious? Sure. Crazy? Absolutely. Either way it’s on my bucket-list and I feel like I’m in a great position in my life to attempt such a feat.This is simply a ‘me’ thing, I have to illusions of grandeur. I’ve come to the conclusion that it will be science fiction (and by conclusion I mean I’m 65% sure it will be science fiction). I’m in the research phase of development, which essentially means I’m reading anything I can get my hands on, learning about the writing process, and delving deep into my imagination. Thoughts? Do you, the public, know of any good reference material that I should know about? Also, as a side, I will be writing on here more often in an attempt to hone skills and update everyone on my progress! Here goes nothing….
I, for one, am ecstatic for the quintessential nerd holiday…my phone and charger are ready for what I’m sure will be a very eventful couple of days. What games are you guys looking forward to seeing? For me it’s got to be Mass Effect 3 and Uncharted!
